The most comprehensive
Papiamentu-English Dictionary available
First printed in 1992 and again in 1995, this popular dictionary has not been available for a number of years. Trans World Radio Dictionary Foundation, which owns the copyright for the book, was the original publisher of the dictionary but has licensed Jong Bonaire to update and print this edition.
This new Second Edition of the Papiamentu-English Dictionary has been printed on slightly lighter paper in an effort to keep printing and shipping costs low. As a result, the book can be sold at close to the same price as ten years ago. Retail price of the dictionary is US$ 45 (or NAfl 80.)
Some of the changes in the Second Edition include the addition of over 100 words that were missing from the original version of the Dictionary. There is also a new section that explains some of the differences between the Papiamentu of Aruba and that of Bonaire and Curacao. The biographical information on the author has been updated and information on the new sponsor of the dictionary, Jong Bonaire, is included.
This new version also has a divider page between the Papiamentu and English sections. This means that users will not have to turn the book upside down to switch from on section to the other.
The cover of the Second Edition of the Papiamentu-English Dictionary was designed by Bart Landheer, a designer who lives part time on Bonaire. The logo of Jong Bonaire was designed by Ibo Vis, a former member of the youth center who returned to Jong Bonaire as an intern several years ago.
